Cancelled
Raymond Cox, Race Director of the Manx Telecom Parish Walk, has announced that this year’s event has been cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic.
Walkers who have registered to participate will be contacted by email and offered the option of deferring their entry to the 2021 event, which will take place on 19th June. For those who do not wish to have their entry deferred, they can either have their registration fees refunded in full or given as a donation to the Manx Harriers Young Athletes' fund which is used to send the club's younger competitors to events in the UK to compete. The refund process may make some time but it is hoped to be completed soon after the time allowed for making your choice has finished.
Commenting on the cancellation, Ray said that the Parish Walk team was very sad to make the announcement:
“The Manx Telecom Parish Walk is a highlight of the year for so many of us, but the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves mean that we have to ensure the safety of walkers and the hundreds of volunteers who make the event happen our first priority.”
Gary Lamb, Chief Executive Officer of Manx Telecom, the main sponsor of the Parish Walk for the last 9 years, said that in the current circumstances, cancellation of the event was the right thing to do.
“We are sorry to disappoint all those who were looking forward to taking part in this unique sporting event, and particularly those who were competing for charity, however everyone’s health must come first and we are sure that everyone will understand why this decision has been made.
“I’d like to thank Ray, his team and all my Manx Telecom colleagues who have worked so hard in preparation for this year’s event – and I know that everyone will be ready to make the Parish Walk even bigger and better in 2021.”
All walkers who have already entered the event will be contacted via email and invited to choose between rolling their entry forward to 2021, requesting a refund or donating their entry fee to the Manx Harriers Young Athletes' fund. The window for making this choice will remain open until the end of April, after which time the organising team will start to process refunds by cheque. The enrtry fee for any entrant who has not chosen a preference after the end of April will be donated to the MHYA fund.
Where a refund is requested, this will be sent by cheque to the address registered in their contact details on the system.
Questions and Answers
We have tried to address the most common questions people will have in relation to the cancellation of the 2020 Parish Walk and in particular questions in relation to their race entry.
How can I get a refund of my entry fee?
If an entrant does not wish to defer their entry until the 2021 event, they can request a refund. Refunds will be paid in full by cheque to the name of the entrant and posted to the registered address. This process will take some time but it should be soon after the end of April. All entrants will be sent an email which contains a link where they can request a full refund.
How do I defer my entry to next year?
All entrants will be sent an email which contains a link where they can defer their entry to the 2021 Parish Walk by selecting this option. Next year's race will be on June 19th.
If the price of the entry fee goes up for 2021 and I have deferred my entry, will I have to pay the difference?
The entry fee for deferred entries will remain the same even if the fee goes up for 2021.
If I do nothing, what will happen to my entry fee?
If, by the end of April, you have not indicated whether you wish to get a refund, defer your entry or donate, your fee will be given to the Manx Harriers Young Athletes' travel fund.
I will be in a different age category by race day 2021; do I need to do anything?
All age categories will be taken as on June 19th. If your age category changes before the 2021 event then your entry will be altered accordingly.
I entered the U21 race to Peel this year however, I will be 21 on or before race day 2021. I want to do the full distance - what do I need to do with my entry?
If you will be 21 years old on or before June 19th 2021 then you will be entered into the senior category and you may walk the full distance. There is no difference to the fee and your category will be altered automatically. You will still need to defer your entry to the 2021 event though.
Since entering the 2020 event I have married and I need to change my name on my deferred entry. How can I do that?
If a deferred entrant's name needs to be altered for 2021, you will need to email the race secretary for his type of change to be applied as it is not something the entrant can do themselves.
If you have any other queries, you can contact the organising committee using the usual methods found here.
